Aaron Reihs, Saxophone


A sophomore at Sam Barlow High School, Aaron joined the Pacific Crest Jazz Orchestra toward the end of the 2009-2010 year.  Studying on both alto and tenor sax, he has since primarily focused on tenor.  As well as the Pacific Crest Jazz Orchestra, Aaron is also involved in the Alan Jones Academy of Music.


Aaron has been playing saxophone for the last five years.  He began playing in the concert band program at Damascus Middle School in fifth grade, and began the middle school jazz program in sixth grade.  Aaron has competed in many festivals and competitions with both concert and jazz bands, and has been a participant in Solo and Ensemble competitions.  Aaron attended the 2009 University of Oregon Summer Jazz Improvisation Camp, as well as the Mel Brown Jazz Camp at WOU in 2010.


Since attending Sam Barlow High School, Aaron has been placed in both the top Symphonic Band and the top Jazz Band.  He is currently a member of the Sam Barlow Symphonic Band.  Aaron competed in the 2010 Oregon State Solo Competition, where he placed fourth in the low saxophones division.  He has previously belonged to the Whiskey Hill Jazz Club, directed by Clark Bondy.


Aaron currently studies with Scott Hall, and previously studied with Clark Bondy.


Besides music, Aaron also enjoys participating in theatre productions.  He has previously participated in school and local theatre productions, such as Fiddler on the Roof.


As well as saxophone, Aaron also plays piano (previously studied with Darlene Goin) and clarinet.  He hopes to begin studying jazz piano in the future.
