Aaron Reihs, Saxophone
A freshman at Sam Barlow High School, Aaron joined the Pacific Crest Jazz Orchestra three weeks before leaving for Monterey with the band for the Next Generation Jazz Festival.
Aaron has been playing saxophone for the last five years. He began playing in the concert band program at Damascus Middle School in fifth grade, and picked up jazz as a sixth grader in the Damascus Middle School jazz band.
Aaron has competed in many festivals and competitions with both concert and jazz bands, and has been a participant in Solo and Ensemble competitions. Aaron attended the 2009 University of Oregon Summer Jazz Improvisation Camp.
Since attending Sam Barlow High School, Aaron has been placed in both the top Symphonic Band, with which he has participated in multiple festivals and qualifiers, and the top Jazz Band. He also has won an Outstanding Musician award with the Sam Barlow Stage Band. Aaron competed this year in the Oregon State Solo Competition, where he placed fourth in the low saxophones division.
As well as saxophone, Aaron also has been playing piano since he was four, and hopes to begin studying jazz piano in the future.
Aaron currently studies saxophone with Clark Bondy.
