Kama Bell, Saxophone
Portland native Kama Bell brings her experience in both classical and jazz music to the orchestra for the first time this year.
Kama, a Junior at Gresham High School, played throughout her Middle School years at Portland Adventist Elementary School. She is currently playing with the Gresham High School Jazz Band 1, Jazz Combo, Wind Symphony, and Pep Band, as well as with the Pacific Crest Orchestra. Kama previously played piano for two years with the Portland Youth Philharmonic as well as alto and soprano saxophone.
She currently studies with John Gross, Clark Bondy, and Dr. Doug Schneider, and previously studied with Larry Johnson and Craig Bidondo.
Kama won 5th place on alto saxophone at the 2009 Oregon State solo and ensemble competition, as well as a seat at the 2008 Western International Band Clinic. She also was one of four musicians to be awarded a position in the 2009 Pacific Honors Ensemble Program held at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia.
Kama was awarded a full tuition scholarship to the 2010 Berklee College of Music 5 week summer program.
